"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood!"

Showcasing the potential & talent of youth?  That was the purpose of Parkside's "Leadership Day,"
celebrated together on Friday May 3rd.
Habit #6:  "Together is Better." These
pupils welcomed guests at the front door.
Habit #4:  Think Win-Win."  Providing a place where all youth are successful, is essential.
We appreciated Superintendent Mr.
Doug Daugherty helping us celebrate!
Thanks to staff & members of the Student Leadership Team for helping welcome
guests and help visitors navigate our
 hallways to visit individual classrooms.
How about Habit #2:  "Begin with the end in mind?"  These aspiring student thespians
shared a story of a brother and his sisters
 who were trying to convince
their
parents to let them have a pet.
Some guests listened to book talks and learned about some great titles out there.
Habit #1:  "Be Proactive,"
and take initiative for your learning.
These 2nd graders shared their progress
recorded within individual data binders.
Guests observed some busy 1st graders
playing a game during their reading
lesson.
Habit 5:  "Seek 1st to understand & then to be understood." These 3rd graders did S.T.E.M. activities, discussing them with guests.
So there were opportunities for this class to
do some teaching & "
show what we know."
Thank you Mr. Monte Newlin, from the Regional Office of Education #12 for joining our 5th graders for a little Cinco De Mayo fun.
Who can resist "con sopes?"  These folks
enjoyed a traditional Mexican dish, tacos.

This 2nd grade class knows and can show
quite a bit of knowledge about volcanoes.
  These pupils invited guests
to play "7 Habits Jeopardy!"

Habit #7:  "Synergize,"
for we all can learn something from each other.

This class exchanged ideas about school
and how lessons learned now will carry
them into their futures.
Habit #3:  "Put first things first!"
Guests & this 2nd grade class did a lesson, from "The Seven Habits of Happy Kids."
He's a writer and shared his dream
of someday playing professional sports.
Planning & setting goals helps
us achieve things that make a difference.
We were all inspired, excited, and
grateful that so many guests joined us.

This class of children each presented speeches to their guests & 3rd grade peers.
"Do you know how to safely cut down a tree?
We do now!

Our event ended when guests posed
questions of
leaders, each of whom
were representing their grade level.

Good conversation & insights for us all!
So thankful were we for this opportunity.
We Are Parkside
