First Sound Fluency

Our staff periodically check reading progress by administering one minute assessments.  Results help us determine areas where students would benefit from additional instruction.  We know that our Kindergarten youngsters are completely "new" to the process and it can make for some unexpected answers.
 
For example:  "Tell me the first sound you hear in cat?"
                             "Meow!"

                         "Tell me the first sound you hear in wheel?"
                             "Bump-bump-bump.......that's what
                                they sound like when they go flat."
