SISC: A Job Well Done!

A BIG thank you to all the volunteers
and participants who braved the cold on
March 28th to participate  in the fifth
annual Southern Illinois Spring Classic!

Proceeds from the run-walk help
Kids Shopping Day
give local school children a
"fresh start" for their school year.

Kids Shopping Day of Lawrence County

is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping

local youngsters.  Annually, pupils attending schools in

both Unit 10 and 20 are are invited to a one-day event

during which they receive necessary items to start the

year.  These essentials include new clothes, shoes,

toiletries, school supplies, backpacks, and fresh hair cuts.

The Start

We don't need a ticket to see some of
the finest baseball in the world.
Rather, just drive one of
the players to the game.

Sundae Challenge

Ice cream brings a bit of fun to the
final day of class before spring break!

It started with some "eager readers."
They got the chance to create a sundae
on the heads of some teachers.

Don't forget the chocolate sauce,

or leave out the whipped cream!

"I scream, you scream,
we all scream for ice cream."

Either way there was lots of cheering
and fun "before dessert was served,"

and plenty of smiles "afterwards" too!
One scoop....or maybe two?
Hip-hip hooray
for one and all!

Our Gratitude

"A shout-out to Parkside Elementary!

With a HUGE amount of effort
they've eclipsed our previous
"Oven Ready Fundraiser"
efforts.

Students sold 2500 pizzas
creating a profit of $12,500!

Now we have to get back to work.
We have a few pizzas to make!"

Parkside PTO made this happen,
arm-in-arm with families across Lawrence County.

That first step toward success for any
endeavor with kids is impossible without help.
Thank you for believing in the
promise of youth within our school community.

Happy Pi Day

"Pi Day was so cool.  How do you
like the shirts Mr. Jennings ordered for us?"

"I had cherry pie, umm, my favorite!"

"It was the best day this school year."

"We measured, and now I'll
remember that pi is not just food."

"I think we should have Pi Month."
                                       ~Parkside 5th Graders
"If" you missed Mr. Jennings' math class:
Pi is the circumference of a circle (distance
around a circle) divided by its diameter (distance
across). So, the circumference of any circle
is approximately 3.14 times its diameter.

Breaking the News

"What do you mean the Indians vs
Teutopolis Sectional basketball game
is being rescheduled for Thursday?"

 That was the comment.
This was "the look."

Breaking the news to
some Parkside pupils
was...... rather awkward.
