"Take Five for the Community" @ WAKO

These youngsters got an early
morning "start" with Mr. Arvin Hawkins.
They settled right down to business,
telling listeners about an upcoming
"Leadership Day" we're hosting on May 3rd.
Adalynn shared some of her
favorite characters that are in
"The Seven Habits of Happy Kids."
Ellie explained ways in which using the
habits help her both in school and at home.
Jazz described some of the activities classes
are doing to help kids put the habits to
good use for each and every pupil.

Thanks for an opportunity to share
the latest news about how we're
"growing" leadership skills.

Enjoy the interview:

Leadership is Action, Not Position

Deanna & Mr. Jennings

"If your actions inspire others to dream more,
learn more, do more and your become
more, you are a leader."
~John Quincy Adams

Cash & Miss York

"Leadership and learning
are indispensable to each other."
~John F. Kennedy

Brodey & Miss Grimes

"Example is not the main thing in influencing
others.  It's the only thing."
~Albert Schweitzer

Mackenzie & Mrs. Crawford

"The greatest leader is not necessarily the
one who does the greatest things.  He is
the one who gets the people to do
the greatest things."

~Ronald Reagan

Jazz, Brandon & Mrs. Mikeworth

"Leaders aren't born they are made.  And
they are made just like anything else,
through hard work.  And that's the
price
we'll have to pay to achieve
that
goal, any goal."

~Vince Lombardi

Public Victory Celebration

What you might ask, is Parkside's
very own Public Victory Celebration?

At school, it began with a "full house"
of pupils, alongside Mrs. Hayes,
Mr. Wood and the entire staff.
Our very own Mr. Jennings made
announcements, helped by Miss Shuff.
Hearing your name called to recognize
a talent in carrying forth one of our
"Leader in Me" habits is a big deal!
The Student Leadership Team
cheered us all on, keeping our spirits up.
We Are Parkside!
Habit 4
"Think Win-Win"
We want everyone to be a success.
Habit 5
"Seek First to Understand,
Then to be Understood"
We listen to other people's ideas and feelings.
Habit 6
"Synergize- Together is Better"
We know everyone is good at something.
Habit 7
"Sharpen the Saw"
We learn in lots of ways
and lots of places,
not just at school.

We are so proud of our all our pupils!

The Nest

She was first spotted during recess......
just to the right of our playground
Flying back & forth, her bill stuffed with grass and twigs to build a nest among the pines.
5th graders decided to leave yarn nearby, in hopes that it may be added to this nest.

Talent and Promise

"Just look up!"
We spied Mr. Baum placing new
tiles into the hallway ceilings,
to honor efforts of
talented kids.
These youth, their ideas, our future.

Why Not?

The rain stops and puddles disappear.
My teacher helped us do this puzzle.
We jump at chances to swing, swing, swing!
R. J. gives us basketball pointers.....
for P.E. is a chance to perfect our skills.
It's no secret, we welcome these April days!

The World Needs the Good We Can Do

There it was, lying on the gym floor.....
"the permission slip."
Quick thinking Brayden made
Jaylie's day, returning it as soon as possible.

"When we give cheerfully and accept
gratefully, everyone is blessed."

Readers Are Writers

First graders have decided upon
becoming
authors or illustrators.
We think those are great goals!
Opening up their book....
these partners are giving
a reading of their latest story.
Other first graders have
different ideas for their books.
Congratulations on each and every effort!
