It's a Great Deal

Luci: "I love you mommy."
Mother: "I love you too Luci."
Luci: "I'm glad you're my mom."
Mother: "I'm glad you're my daughter too
."
Luci: "Mom, maybe we were made for

each other."
Mother: "Yes, God surely knew what he
was doing when he gave you to me."
Luci: "Yeah, he's is a pretty smart dude."

Thank You to Everyone

Thank you to everyone who helped put
on the Ag Petting Zoo at L.H.S. Friday.
It was very nice and my first
graders really enjoyed it!

It looked like the
"big kids" were having fun too!
They especially liked milking
the "cow," and asked "Is it real?"

A sudden loud quack made some of
my girls scream and one of my boys
saw the camel, and commented
"Too bad it's not Hump Day!"

Our youngsters deserve to face their
many challenges feeling "able,"
feeling "capable," and "powerful."
Thanks in advance for seeing that
those whom you influence over
the next week get that message!

It's the Little Things

after snow days because we have these
to share with my daughter's class."

No Snow Days, Huh?!

"A huge shout-out to Neal Baum!
He keeps our classrooms cool when it is
hot outside and warm when it's cold
outside.  The school's parking lot is the
cleanest and best-plowed in the county.

He and the rest of the hard
working custodians get no snow days.

So when staff  shows up the morning
after a storm to clean parking spaces,
cleared sidewalks, new light bulbs,
and vacuumed carpets we know
"who's been hard at it."
Be thankful for all their efforts!"

Fourth Grade Poets

What do we get when helping kids
discover the Japanese poet Basho, writing
a poem about a hippo, and introduce them
to the  5-7-5 hikau syllable cadence?

How about a new world of expression!

Surfing loudly
It rose from the river's debts

A bird's song is lovely
The tune ever beautiful

on the sea, land, and roof all
It's spectacular.

Wind howls at the horizon,
and morning it is.

A Visit to Remember

What do you get when you "win" a
Skype session with author Andrea Beaty?

It means new books to check out
at the library with Mrs. Daugherty's help.
A chance to visit the author's website:
Standing room only......well, "sitting
room only" for 1st graders on the
day we connected with her via Skype!
 She was welcoming, encouraging,
and friendly that afternoon.

 Some of us are authors,
just like Mrs. Beaty.
Thanks for the memories!

We appreciate the support from
the Illinois Reading Council and
Miss Williamson for making it happen.
