Respect and Appreciation

We know that the smallest gestures often hold the greatest significance!

Recently our Creative Literacy classes did some beautiful artwork.
Their task was designing a greeting card and include a personal message.
The artwork and well-wishes were for Vietnam War veteran Al Bennett.
He was selected for "The Honor Flight of Southern Indiana," that
departed Evansville Regional Airport on Friday October 29th.
Veterans, along with a guardian or escort, fly to Washington D.C.
While there, Al and the others were recognized, honored, and toured
the sights around our U.S. capitol, including Arlington National Cemetery.
For more information:

We trust that these gifts of artwork and words will help
Al Bennett feel joyful and know that we appreciate his service.
We can find ways to show respect
 and admiration for others,
especially when they inspire us.

Wrapping Up a Busy Week

This leader helps a pupil practice his reading.
#ThankYou
Professional health care workers were our guests,
with lots of welcoming smiles and high-fives!
What a wonderful welcome to class on Friday morning.
What's not to love?
Thank you for such uplifting moments for our pupils.
There was "seasonal fun" this week as well.
How about math lessons with pumpkins?
Open the gourd with partners & scoop out its seeds.
Then the counting...and more counting begins!

This is How We Roll

Nature gives us all beautiful, fall things from
our Butterfly Garden to create special works of art.

T.A.G. pupils have started after-school sessions.
They're involved with computer programming in Acellus.

Wonderful kids make up our school community.

"Morning showers," are necessary for some plants.

Collaborating to create "Halloween" greetings, you bet!

Kids are learning about a chemical reaction called oxidation.
Curious leaders keep their eyes on this ongoing experiment.

Pennies are made of copper & when exposed to oxygen
form molecules called copper oxide.   As the penny dries and is
exposed to the air, a chemical reaction occurs and the penny turns green.
More than 30 tons of copper went into creating The Statue of Liberty, which altogether weighs 204 tons!  Learn more about this monument, located in New York City:

Grateful Are We!

New adventures, new memories...
oh Autumn graced us with all this & more!
Thankfully these youth helped make that happen.
Left to right, meet the September "Students of the Month:"
Hayden Winchell, Rori Strange,
 Jacob Meeks,
Aaron Decker,
William Strange,
and Easton Baker
They're kids that show up on schedule, ask questions,
share
with others, give their best efforts & are humble too.

We learn from their example, each and every day.

Welcome!

Meet Ranger, the newest member of 3rd grade.
As a gecko, he's a nocturnal lad but doesn't
join Mr. Zuber's class in the lunchroom for meals.
His favorites, mealworms or crickets, aren't on our menu!

Undaunted

"Mr. Wood," they asked,  "May we sweep up
in the lunchroom, since we're both finished eating?"

"We like to help," they said.
This duo had a plan!
Just look at the energy these two
3rd grade volunteers brought into this space.

"An Apple a Day"

Autumn's here & you're invited to peek into an
adventure
alongside Mrs. Wells' Kindergarteners.
Learning all about different varieties of apples.....
Taking a vote on a treat they love the most......
These boys and girls gave-a-go at
"taste testing
" and made homemade applesauce!
That favorite treat they voted for?
The winner was Apple Pie!
Lots of counting and then lots of graphing...
Such winning ways because this class is
filled with kind, curious, and willing learners!
Thanks for joining us.

The Twins of Leadership & Learning

At our school, in every grade level,
it's an important duty to give back to others.
That's what happened when Mrs. Mikeworth's 5th
graders helped Mrs. Wells' 1st graders to count tickets.

Having a correct tally helps when kids choose to "spend"
 leadership tickets or "save" evidence
for future shopping.
Perhaps being a good example
can help change someone's outlook,
 and help
you recognize that good deeds really matter.

Plant the Moon

 https://flip.com/s/H1AFzBRyi5Xf

Mrs. Wallace's 3rd graders are participating in a NASA Challenge.
The quest is to see if different groups can grow vegetables in lunar simulant & soil.
Meet our leaders in the link (above) to hear details about their project and  goals.

Pupils started the experiments on September 29th.
They chose to plant peas.
They planted two seeds in each container.

Containers are filled with 50% soil & 50% lunar simulant.
Nutrients were added to all but one container, the control.
Nutrients included egg shells, coffee grounds, water from a fish tank, or leaves.
Some of the pea plants sprouted this week!
