Talent Galore

The smile says it all!
Lawrenceville High School
has been the
place to be this week.
Daily for four hours
there's one activity after
another
for the participants.
Stories vary, so groups make decisions together with volunteers in order to prepare for Friday evening  performances.  Here Mr. Atkins lends a hand, getting input from these participants before they work on creating their set.
Mrs. Hayes & Mr. Davis "troubleshoot" details from costumes, programs, lighting, and
 sound in the L.H.S. theater.
Appropriate costuming is
essential to excellent storytelling.
Actors learn how to properly wear and
use their microphones while on stage,
along with a lesson about the sound system.
Mr. Curry & Mrs. Reidy discuss blocking
scenes with these participants so they can
use the entire stage to the best advantage.
Thanks to Virginia & Heather Clark,
snacks are a daily treat.
Everyone is "spoiled!"
Mr. Clark checks on these youngsters  to see
if they have everything they need.
This week youth learned about the influence
a German Art School called Bauhaus had on
modern art design, and architecture.
Mrs. Tewell guided discussions that
enabled kids to recognize how artistic
expression has changed across time.
Then it was time for young people to create their own pieces.  Don't miss the art gallery at L.H.S. on Friday, during the performances.
In it's twelfth year, the Lawrence County
Arts Council is supported by exceptional
talent and dedicated volunteers.
Did we say "practice?"
Yes, lots of practice on the stage all week.
We do believe that everything is
coming together for our entire group!
Stay tuned for more glimpses of KTW 2019!

"It's a Wrap" at L.H.S.

Five days of cooking and cleaning is fun?
Yes it is when you participate in
Jr. Chefs classes with friends, old & new.
Youngsters had chances to
try different fruits & vegetables
during the week.  "Give it just a taste!"
We had expert guidance from the staff
at The University of Illinois
Extension offices in the area.
One of many lessons during the week:
how
to juice a lemon, for your next dish.
Do you know how to choose the best knife for
your next task in the kitchen & use it safely?
Jr. Chefs practiced the best ways to
crack eggs and not get shells in their recipes.
Near the end of the week, an important lesson was about hosting a party & helping guests feel welcome.
On the final day, that's exactly what they did!
It was the perfect chance to share
the many dishes the children made that week.
Lots of pride "across the table."
We hope guests enjoyed themselves.
It was such a nice turnout of
friends and families from our community!

Big thanks to the volunteers who helped make the week possible, especially folks at  Lawrenceville High School.
